Sportboats are lightweight monohull keelboats that can plane downwind, and usually have an asymmetrical spinnaker and a lifting keel for trailer-sailing. Our Sportboat fleet at LCYC focuses on the 19 to 24 foot range, and is currently open to the following one-design boats:
J/70, Melges 20, Melges 24, Rocket 22, Seascape 24, Viper 640, VX One.
The current LCYC fleet includes three J/70s and three Viper 640s. We are focusing our growth on these two boats.
We have Sportboat trophies for Wednesday Night Racing, a multi-event Etchells/Sportboat Series, and the annual Ladies Cup. The Sportboat fleet competes in the Spinnaker B class for all other weekend races, along with the Etchells fleet.
We also host an annual Viper 640 Regatta, and are home to J/70 Fleet 27.
